In 1924, twelve farmers met at the Lime Tree Inn and wrote the society's rules. Back then everyone kept hives in their own garden. All they shared was a honey extractor and a monthly meeting.
The society didn't build its own apiary on Hollins Hill until 1958. Forty years later came a club for children from three local schools, and with it a new generation of beekeepers.
